We have a chronic, systemic shortage of mental healthcare in Maine, and saw the effect of that shortage during the tragic events that recently took place in Lewiston. If we really want to tackle the root cause, we should eliminate any and all obstacles to accessing mental healthcare. Certificate of Need (CON) is an expensive and time consuming regulatory roadblock that limits healthcare options in Maine, contributing to our mental healthcare shortage.
